not quite sure how I did this, however, a couple of days ago my left shoulder started hurting like a bastard and it hasn't stopped since.

Most of the time it feels like someone has stuck a knife in the joint and is trying to pry it apart, though sometimes it is absolutely excruciatingly painful.

I'm taking Ibuprofen and have had a couple of hot baths in attempt to ease it, but neither are doing a right lot.

I fully dislocated the same shoulder some 25 yrs ago and it feels a lot like that, though the arm's not sitting proud of the socket nor is the arm rotated, so I can only think that it's slightly out and/or trapped a nerve.

Simple things like walking up stairs or washing my hands proves nigh on unbearable and arm movement is limited (I can just and so get the hand behind my back, where as usually I can get the hand up between my shoulder blades) so I'd like to get it sorted soon as possible.

So any ideas what it is and what I can do about to relieve the symptoms?

When I did mine it was glaringly obvious that it was dislocated because of the way it hung out of the socket.

Otherwise it sounds similar.

You know what the answer is though chap, go see your GP instead of asking a bunch of internet based losers what their opinion is based on not seeing it:D.

Hope it's ok when you get it looked at.

funny you should say that, the wife said exactly the same

so, how well do you know my wife, hmm, come on, I'm waiting ...

in all seriousness, I won't be able to see a quack for a while due to work commitments, hence asking DocJohn or anyone else who'll listen to my incessant whining (ow, ow, my arm hurts, moan, moan, moan) :(

I dislocated mine walking in the Peaks. I walked for over two hours with it hanging out of the socket to get to a road and get an ambulance.

As a result it was weeks before I was even vaguely ok, months before it was back to full strength.

If I'd had it put back in straight away I'd have been much better off.

Seriously dude, the short term attitude of, "I can't take time off" will only fuck you up in a major way later on. Get it sorted.

It's done this before (quite a few times) and in the past it hasn't been this bad or taken as long to sort itself out, but really, regards time, I've just started a new job and I don't want to piss them off in the first couple of weeks.

Yeah, but c'mon, what do you do for a living? Can you do it halfway decently now? Could you do it loads beter with two functioning arms?

Unless you're a professional wanker I reckon it'd be better for them and you to get it sorted.:)

Only bosses in Dickens novels could object.

Plus, in 10 years time, would you rather be working somewhere else but with a fully functioning arm, or employed at the same place and struggling to put your coat on?

Mitch

No shame on my part, all quite complimentary:D Apparently, "I do well for an old giffer";)

Scuse me for mozying on in here but what did the Doc say ?

I had a similar sounding pain in my shoulder a while back ( no previous dislocation ) and the pain disappeared simply by changing my pillow to give more support! And that was my Docs 'prescription' !!!!!!!!

ahem, he didn't as I didn't go...

I er, took more painkillers and gave it a rub and as of last night it's now starting to ease, however it doesn't stop it sounding like it wants to fall off when I move my arm when it gives out a loud POP, POP, POP!!!

Interesting to hear about your Docs prescription, I have a lot of problems with my neck and I have to have my pillows just and so else I have the most horrendous neck, back and shoulder pains...

Hmmm, mebbe new pillows are on the cards
